In August 2025, international visitor arrivals to the United States totaled 6,893,068, a decrease of 8.3 percent compared to August 2024
Outbound travel departures from the United States by U.S. citizens totaled 10,234,242 in August 2025, an increase of 4.4 percent compared to August 2024
Data recently released by the National Travel and Tourism Office (NTTO) show that in August 2025:
International Arrivals to the United States
- Total non-U.S. resident international visitor volume to the United States of 6,893,068 decreased 8.3 percent compared to August 2024, representing 84.9 percent of the pre-COVID total visitor volume reported for August 2019.
- Overseas visitor volume to the United States of 3,492,907 decreased 2.9 percent from August 2024.
- The largest number of international visitor arrivals was from Mexico (1,823,354), Canada (1,576,807), the United Kingdom (413,430), Japan (244,402), and India (204,692). Combined, these top 5 source markets accounted for 61.8 percent of total international arrivals.
- The top 5 overseas tourism arrivals for August were the United Kingdom (377,599), Japan (211,367), Italy (188,211), France (171,350), and Germany (169,859).
- The top 5 overseas business arrivals for August were India (37,119), the United Kingdom (28,330), Japan (26,919), Germany (17,237), and South Korea (15,137).
- The top 5 overseas student arrivals for August were China (86,647), India (41,540), South Korea (16,412), Brazil (8,082), and Vietnam (7,883).
International Departures from the United States
- Total U.S. citizen international visitor departures from the United States of 10,234,242 increased 4.4 percent compared to August 2024 and were 108.4 percent of total departures in pre-pandemic August 2019.
- The year-to-date (YTD) market share for North America (Mexico & Canada) was 49.2 percent and overseas was 50.8 percent.
- Mexico recorded the largest outbound visitor volume of 3,424,397 (33.5 percent of total departures for August). Canada recorded a year-over-year (YOY) decrease of 6.0 percent.
- Combined YTD, Mexico (27,954,130) and the Caribbean (8,320,815) accounted for 47.8 percent of total U.S. citizen international visitor departures.
- Europe was the second largest market for outbound U.S. visitors with 2,467,679 departures. This accounted for 24.1 percent of all departures in August. Outbound visitation to Europe in August 2025 increased 5.6 percent compared to August 2024.

I-92/APIS International Air Passengers
The ADIS/I-94 Visitor Arrivals Program, in cooperation with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)/U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), provides a count of visitor arrivals (Overseas+Canada+Mexico) to the United States (with stays of 1-night or more and visiting under certain visa types) and is used to calculate U.S. travel and tourism exports.
The APIS/I-92 Program provides information on non-stop international air traffic between the United States and other countries. The data has been collected from the Department of Homeland Security - Customs and Border Protection’s Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) since July 2010. The APIS based “I-92” system provides air traffic data on the following parameters: number of passengers, by country, airport, scheduled or chartered, U.S. Flag, foreign flag, citizens and non-citizens.
