International Air Passenger Enplanements To and From the United States Up 1.2 percent Year Over Year in August 2025
Overseas Visitation to the United States Down 2.9 percent Year Over Year in August 2025
Data recently released by the National Travel and Tourism Office (NTTO) show that in August 2025:
U.S.-international air traffic passenger enplanements1 totaled:
- 25.6 million in August 2025, up 1.2 percent compared to August 2024, with enplanements reaching 104.7 percent of pre-pandemic August 2019 volume.
Originating Non-Stop Air Travel in August 2025
- Non-U.S. citizen air passenger arrivals to the United States from foreign countries totaled:
- 5.6 million in August 2025, down 3.3 percent compared to August 2024.
- This represents 88.6 percent of pre-pandemic August 2019 volume.
On a related note, overseas visitor arrivals2 totaled 3.5 million in August 2025, which reached 86.0 percent of pre-pandemic August 2019 volume, up from 82.9 percent in July 2025. August 2025 overseas visitor arrivals decreased 2.9 percent compared to August 2024. Year-to-date through August, total overseas visitation was down 1.8 percent compared to the same period last year.
- U.S. citizen air passenger departures from the United States to foreign countries totaled:
- 6.5 million in August 2025, up 2.8 percent from August 2024.
- This exceeded August 2019 volume by 22.0 percent.
World Region Highlights in August 2025 (APIS/I-92 arrivals + departures)
- Total air passenger travel (arrivals and departures) between the United States and other countries was led by Mexico (3.2 million, +1.9 percent Year-Over-Year (YOY)), Canada (2.9 million, -9.6 percent YOY), the United Kingdom (2.2 million, -0.9 percent YOY), Germany (1.2 million, +2.3 percent YOY), and the Dominican Republic (1.1 million, +6.6 percent YOY).
- International regional air travel to/from the United States:
- Europe totaled 8.8 million passengers, up 3.8 percent over August 2024, and up 6.1 percent compared to August 2019.
- South/Central America/Caribbean totaled 5.9 million, up 1.8 percent over August 2024, and up 15.5 percent compared to August 2019.
- Asia totaled 2.8 million passengers, up 5.4 percent over August 2024, but down 21.1 percent compared to August 2019.
- Top U.S. ports serving international locations were New York (JFK) 3.8 million, Los Angeles (LAX) 2.2 million, Miami (MIA) 2.1 million, Newark (EWR) 1.7 million, and Chicago (ORD) 1.5 million.
- Top foreign ports serving U.S. locations were London Heathrow (LHR) 1.7 million, Toronto (YYZ) 1.0 million, Paris (CDG) 917,000, Cancun (CUN) 901,000, and Frankfurt (FRA) 793,000.
