The European Union Initiates Safeguard Investigation into Global Imports of Certain Grain-Oriented Flat-Rolled Products of Silicon-Electrical Steel
On March 27, 2026, the European Commission initiated a safeguard (SG) investigation into global imports of certain grain-oriented flat-rolled products of silicon-electrical steel. If an affirmative decision is issued in this investigation, duties may be imposed on subject U.S. exports

A safeguard investigation assesses whether a surge of imports is causing or threatening to cause serious injury to the domestic industry

Products Under Investigation
The products subject to this investigation are (1) certain grain-oriented flat-rolled products of silicon-electrical steel (‘GOES’) and (2) steel laminations and cores, whether or not stacked or wound (‘SLC’) for transformers and inductors. The European Customs tariff heading for the products covered by this investigation are tariff codes 7225.11.00, 7226.11.00, and 8504.90.13.
