John Fay
John Fay is currently the Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Global Markets Asia in the International Trade Administration. He has previously served overseas as the Commerce Department’s first Senior Commercial Officer in Dhaka, Bangladesh; the Deputy Senior Commercial Officer in Berlin, Germany; and the Commercial Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Ankara, Turkey. He was previously a Commercial Officer in Residence at ITA’s U.S. Export Assistance Center in Orlando, supporting U.S. firms in eleven counties in Central Florida. He has also worked at the U.S. Mission to the European Union. Before joining the Foreign Service, Mr. Fay worked at the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service headquarters in Washington, DC, serving as an Associate Director for both the West and Central/Eastern Europe Regions in the Office of International Operations.
Prior to working for the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service, Mr. Fay worked at the Embassy of Australia in Washington, D.C. for the Australian equivalent of the U.S. Department of Commerce, tracking trade and industry policy issues. He has also lived and worked overseas for several years in Brussels and Prague, working for their respective American Chambers of Commerce.
Mr. Fay possesses a degree in International Relations from James Madison University (Harrisonburg, VA). He is fluent in Czech, French, and German languages.
