Andrew Farquharson
Andrew Farquharson serves as the Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Manufacturing for the Office of Manufacturing Industries in ITA’s Industry & Analysis business unit. The Office of Manufacturing Industries is the U.S. Government’s leading advocate for advancing the competitive position of U.S. manufacturing industries in the global marketplace. In his role as Acting DAS, Andrew leads four offices comprised of the Office of Energy and Environmental Industries (OEEI), the Office of Information and Communication Technologies (OICT), the Office of Health Industries (OHI), and the Office of Transportation and Machinery (OTM).
Andrew previously served as a Senior Policy Advisor in the Department of Commerce’s Office of Policy and Strategic Planning (OPSP). In this role, Andrew coordinated policy across the Department on telecommunications, industrial and shipbuilding, energy, space, and national security issues.
Before joining the Department of Commerce, Andrew worked on Lockheed Martin’s Global Regulatory Affairs & Public Policy team, focusing on technology-related issues including spectrum, space (nuclear power and propulsion, satellite, exploration), and artificial intelligence/machine learning. Earlier, he served in the first Trump Administration’s Department of Energy as Senior Policy Advisor to the Under Secretary of Energy, and Special Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of Energy (Electricity). He also previously worked as a policy advisor within Deloitte’s federal consulting practice, and completed fellowships at the Department of State and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Andrew holds a master’s degree in international relations from Harvard University and a bachelor’s degrees in finance, and global business and economics from Salve Regina University. From 2010 to 2013, he served as a Cavalry Scout and Sniper in the U.S. Army, deploying to northern Iraq in support of the Global War on Terrorism.
He lives in Alexandria, Virginia, with his wife and daughter.
