Thailand Port Authority Upgrade Five Ports

The Port Authority of Thailand announced plans to convert all five ports into smart and green ports by 2030.  PAT is responsible for regulating and governing Thailand’s ports under the Ministry of Transport.  Two of the five ports, Lam Chabang and Bangkok, are the country’s largest with a combined container capacity of over 10 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units).

PAT aims to

  • Improve logistics connectivity and reduce congestion and costs by connecting its five ports to four potential dry ports in Khon Kaen, Chachoengsao, Nakorn Ratchasima, and Nakhon Sawan provinces.
  • Implement a maritime transport single-window platform for all stakeholders to monitor the movement of goods.
  • Develop a carbon neutrality roadmap that connects Bangkok port to the expressway, thereby increasing logistics efficiency and reducing congestion and CO2 emissions.
  • Convert Bangkok port into a free economic zone distribution center that is connected to the expressway and develop a semi-automated container terminal within the port.

U.S. companies interested in supplying their technologies and services to support PAT’s development plan are invited to contact Commercial Specialist Ms. Thanyathorn Voravongsatit for more information.
