SIC

U.S. STANDARD INDUSTRIAL CLASSIFICATION
("SIC") CODES FOR THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY

The following Standard Industrial Classification System (SIC) codes are those used by the Office of Aerospace and Automotive Industries' Automotive Team to analyze domestic economic data gathered on the motor vehicle industry by the U.S. Commerce Department's Bureau of the Census, the U.S. Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics, and by the U.S. Federal Reserve Board. Also listed, with a concordance to the old SIC codes, are the new North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes for motor vehicles that were implemented by the Census Bureau in 1997, in accordance with provisions of the North American Free Trade Agreement between the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The NAICS provides a harmonized system for recording and analyzing statistics regarding industries, products, and services in the three countries. Categories will be identical in each country through the five digit level, allowing for direct comparisons. A sixth digit is provided to accommodate national differences where necessary.

Additional information, including a listing of all NAICS codes and a concordance to the SIC, is available via by clicking  here  for the Census Bureau's NAICS web page.

The new Census concordance between SIC and NAICS codes can be found here.
