Preliminary Determination of Sales at Less Than Fair Value
and Postponement of Final Determination:
Pure Magnesium in Granular Form from the People's Republic of China

On Tuesday, April 24, 2001, the Department of Commerce announced its preliminary determination in the above-referenced antidumping duty (AD) investigation. This investigation was initiated on November 6, 2000. The period of investigation is April 1, 2000, through September 30, 2000.


The Magnesium Corporation of America (Magcorp) and the United Steel Workers of America, Locals 482 and 8319


The merchandise subject to this investigation is granular pure magnesium. The technical language describing the scope of this investigation will be included in the preliminary determination which will be published in the Federal Register.

Initiation: November 6, 2000

ITC Preliminary Determination: December 1, 2000

ITA Preliminary Determination (AD): April 23, 2001

ITA Final Determination (extended): September 12, 2001(1)

ITC Final Determination (estimated): October 27, 2001

Order, if final is affirmative (estimated): November 3, 2001

If DOC makes an affirmative final determination, the ITC must make a final injury determination within 45 days. If that determination is affirmative, DOC will issue an antidumping duty order.
