Senior Obama Trade Official to Lead Energy Efficiency Trade Mission to Russia
Under Secretary Francisco Sánchez, 13 U.S. Firms to Visit Moscow, St. Petersburg
WASHINGTON – Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Francisco Sánchez today announced he will lead an energy efficiency trade mission to Russia, June 4-7. The U.S. delegation will include a senior U.S. Department of Energy official and representatives from 13 U.S. firms that offer a broad range of technologies to improve energy efficiency. The trade mission itinerary includes events in Moscow and St. Petersburg, where much of the potential opportunities for U.S. companies exist.
“Russia has identified energy efficiency as a top priority to modernizing its economy,” Sánchez said. “New legislation and national goals addressing energy inefficiency and climate change are creating a demand for the technologies, products, and services offered by U.S. firms in this critical sector.”
Russia presents lucrative opportunities for U.S. energy efficiency companies due to a critical need for significant investments in the sector. Recent economic growth in Russia has driven high levels of new demand for electricity. Both the public and private sectors in Russia are responding to this new reality with major investments in electricity infrastructure and energy efficient systems and technologies. During the last decade, Russia’s import market for electricity transmission and distribution equipment has realized a 25 percent compound annual growth rate.
